A Nightmare In Newton Abbot (ANINA) is a brand new horror film festival which will take place in the South Devon market town of Newton Abbot this Halloween weekend (28/29 October). It is a celebration of off-kilter, current independent horror and experimental short films, alongside classic horror, where weird is wonderful and the strange is beautiful.
Its home for 2023 is within the walls of the historic and atmospheric Tuckers Maltings - a building that has a long history within the town, and stands as testament to both the rural and industrial heritage of Newton Abbot. The festival will take place at The Maltings Taphouse and Bottleshop, a vibrant craft beer bar, housed in the old Maltings building. Festival goers will be lead to the top floor and into the old Malt Hall to the intimate, and eerie festival screening room. It promises to be a unique and memorable experience, and very much like the building, will juxtapose the old with the new.

Saturday will include a screening of amazing and eerie indie horror shorts from across the UK, including many from the South West. DJ’s will be playing a selection of suitably strange and hypnotic tunes from 7pm downstairs in The Taphouse bar, and wood-fired pizza, cooked fresh on the premises, will be available from 5pm.
Sunday’s ‘Spooky Cinema’ is for horror fans, and cinephiles alike. A classic horror triple bill including what many film fans consider the first ever horror movie, ‘The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari’, alongside the Romero classic, ‘Night of The Living Dead’ and, the fever dream that is ‘Carnival of Souls’.

‘HAPPY DAYS’ AN AI HALLOWEEN HORROR PARADE (2023)

In the darkest corners of our memories, there lie secrets we dare not confront. Secrets buried deep within the family, concealed behind fragile smiles and forgotten in the sands of time. It is in this chilling tale that we journey into the heart of darkness, where the veil between the living and the dead is shattered. “Happy Days” is a disturbing film that peels back the layers of a seemingly ordinary life to reveal a sinister underbelly. It unfolds from a deceased mother's enigmatic legacy, a seemingly innocuous box of old photographs, left behind as a haunting reminder of her existence. Little does her grieving family know that within the confines of this seemingly benign box lies a trove of unspeakable horrors.
Kev Winser aka Infected Senses, goes deep into the world of AI imaging, and his prompt creations, find a truly dark space. Could it also be a grand metaphor, for our fears about AI? Kev has just this year completed his MA in Film Sound Design, but has also worked in the visual arts field, is also a DJ, music producer, photographer, Synthographer, and is a jolly nice chap, despite what you may see here.
